Bathroom Designs

For one of the most important spaces in a home bathroom designs are also some of the most idle and under-utilized. Like kitchens, their main purpose is of course functional, but they can likewise be an escape from the pressures of the everyday.  A relaxing soak in the bathtub after a hard day’s work; an invigorating shower to wash away the strains and anxieties of city life, or a quick splash of water in the face to awaken your senses and prepare yourself for new challenges and activities.

The bathroom is not just a functional necessity, but a sanctuary for the wearied soul, which is why it deserves our full creative and artistic energies when we finally renovate this precious space.

Every material should be carefully chosen; colours need be picked with a painter’s eye for composition; faucets, sinks, tubs and tiles—each detail requires forethought to maximize comfort while enhancing aesthetics.

We may not spend more than an hour of our day in bathrooms, but the minutes we do pass there should be worth it. What follows are 10 Bathroom Designs that highlight the functional and artistic potential of bathrooms.

Deep blacks, industrial textures, a plain glass enclosure, and the absence of decorations invest this washroom with a stark, bare-bones aesthetic.

8) More Room Than Bath

With so much visible space, a gorgeously textured floor, and a cleverly understated shower-head, this example looks more like a living space than a room to wash oneself.

9) Confined Quarters

What this bathroom lacks in size it more than makes up for in creativity, including a very distinct and old-fashioned shower-head with exposed pipes, lovely art, a mirror which tricks us into thinking it’s actually a window, and an appealing contrast of shape and colour between the sink and faucet.

10) Natural Elements

It’s not often we see such heavy use of wood in bathrooms.

But this example clearly demonstrates how effective natural materials can be in such a space, with the dark and light planks adding a visual dynamic that’s both original and striking.
