5 Ideas To Make Your Small Homes Look Bigger

Bigger and better is the name of the game in the real estate market – but what to do when you can only afford a small home? There’s no shame in going small, but you have to take proper measures so that your spaces come off as livable. If you don’t, then there’s no point to carrying out a cramped interior design. So further, let’s take a look at a list of 5 ideas to make your small homes look bigger:

1. Get creative with transparency

Homeowners have this common misconception that they can only achieve transparency by using lots of glass in their homes. However, that’s not the case. You can get creative with the way you design your spaces – for example, a compact bar instead of a full dining table, L-shaped kitchen windows, and laser cut screen walls are all innovative yet creative ways to get transparency.

2. Emphasize the whites

Everybody knows the basic physics of the white colour – it’s the most reflective shade, so it’s perfect for giving general spaces the illusion of more. So, it’s only right that you dress your homes in white paint when you’re trying to make it seem as spacious as possible. You can add neutral coloured accents to make things interesting – just like the grey and white bedroom in this image.

3. Windows with sheer curtains

Windows – both full-sized or otherwise – are a great way to make small spaces seem bigger than they are. This is because they let in a lot of natural light and outside views, which makes the interior designs seamlessly integrate with the outdoors. Moreover, an abundance of natural light can make the reflective nature of your white ambiance work more efficiently.

4. Avoid the extra

It is always best to go for minimal furnishing and décor when you’re working with small spaces. If there’s no need for it, then you don’t want to put it in your homes. Just go for the necessities – a couch to sit on, a dining table to eat on, a media console, and maybe an in-built shelf if you have enough space.

5. White, but with textures

If you’ve decided to go for the all-white theme, then an excellent way to carry it out without other colours is by using it in the form of textures. This kitchen is an excellent example of this technique. The subway tiles, glossy laminates, and tiles all work together to deliver the best of white while making the small space seem more than enough.
