Ceiling Trims Designs: What Are The Options

Ceiling trims and skirting boards often cause confusion in home owners who are about to renovate their homes.

Are they one and the same thing? Should you use the same colours for both? What visual effects can different colours create?

Refer to the following four methods as a reference and be your own interior designer!

Matching with the flooring

Matching the trims with the ceiling boards visually harmonises the interior.

Since the colours of the two only differ in brightness, the effect usually conveys an understated elegance.

Some people might find this lacking in adventurousness. Indeed, this design is a relatively prudent move.

If your house has a beautiful wooden floor, opt for wood colour trims to coordinate the colours.

In contrast to the flooring

In contrast to the previous method, you can opt for a colour in direct opposite to the flooring. For example, if the flooring is a light oak, choose a dark walnut for the ceiling trims. If the flooring is in a rich tone, choose a less saturated colour for the trims.

The colour difference creates a striking effect where the areas feel more like separate entities to be looked at. This keeps the interior look interesting.

Find a reference point

For instance, take the door as the colour reference for the ceiling trims. This is because the two are usually adjacent to each other in the interior.

This method is another way to visually harmonise the house’s atmosphere.

Desired visual effect

The colour of the ceiling trims can affect how spacious a room feels. For example, trims with a lighter colour can visually expand the space of the ceiling. If you want the interior to have a more secluded, enclosed atmosphere, choose a darker, richer tone for the trims to make the space look for compact.
