Divergent – A Selection of Interiors with relative Factions
Veronica Roth’s dystopian thriller had taken the world by storm. Tris and Four, with their fearless war against those that stood in the way of justice was what made readers all around the world fall in love with them on the big screen all over again. Their dynamic story was fierce and thrilling, captivating audiences all over the world. The five factions of their world seemed to be perceived as a single quality of any human nature that has become a whole of its part. Each faction represented a quality that set their individuals apart, and being divergent was what set Tris and Four apart from them. If you read between the lines, each of us may have a prevalent quality too. If you fancy yourself dauntless or abnegation totally depends on you – but these qualities can certainly reflect in your surroundings. If you were to design an interior for a person of each faction, the following is what you might end up with.
The dauntless were known for their fierce bravery and courage. They conquered their fear, and lived a life that was simple but always enjoyable. If you were to articulate these qualities into an interior setting, you might end up with something like the image below; warm, but not drab, small but not concave and certainly well-lit. This interior is cozy, intimate and bold at the same time. The rich color scheme adds that bit of panache that was so characteristic of the dauntless faction in that world.
The Erudite were a faction that behooved knowledge like the well it is. They believed education was their god, and that if they took out of that well, it would help them make leaps and bounds in the world outside. If you translate that into an interior, you would end with a setting that appreciates all things educational. This interior with its floor to ceiling bookshelf and rustic study desk would be erudite heaven.
The abnegation believed in selflessness; they believed in letting go of the material world in order to achieve true freedom. A bit like minimalism if you look closely. So an abnegation style interior design would definitely be a minimal interpretation of design – simple, but functional – pragmatic at best.
The Amity faction was known for their teamwork and harmony – they lived together, grew together and were happy together. An amity interior setting would work on an open floor basis, and have true interactive spaces with well-lit interiors. There would be a touch of playfulness in this aesthetic and that would be the highlight of this design.
The Candors were hardcore truth seekers and speakers. Everything was black and white with no grey spots. The truth was the ultimate being. This open floor monochromatic interior would be the best interpretation for a candor personality – simple, see through and brilliant.
