Going Deluxe – Rich, Opulent and Sumptuous
Rich, opulent and sumptuous are adjectives that used to be synonymous with the past – a past where tradition translated into tall buildings with intricately carved facades, gold trimmings, elaborately painted ceilings and grand fixtures. The drama of that kind of grandeur is better known today as baroque, bizarre and full scale traditional come classical. The contemporary society embraces the bold in the form of simplicity gone wild – which may seem oddly oxymoronic, but works in a way that can only be described as juxtaposed. So when we design a rich interior for a client with modern sensibilities, going the way of neo classical is not an option. In this case, the only thing to be done is tweak the modern style in a way that can make the ambiance bend to a designers will. This can be done with the help of a rich color scheme and the right ambient lighting. Deluxe needs to be simple but classic at the same time, and there can be zero room for error while planning the material palate. keeping in mind the simple taste of this style, and selecting the right accessories can be a challenge, so today we will be looking at a few interiors that have done the job in style.
Texturing is one of the key elements when it comes to articulating a successful deluxe design. You cannot go for beading or wainscoting, so wall papers of the rich variety are what would set the interior in a more luxe category. If you look at the design below, you will notice how the gold of the wall paper merges well with the gold of the lighting, creating an overall opulent effect.
2. Artwork and Accessorizing
When you cannot play much with the actual wall space, then the best way to reinforce the concept of deluxe would be by choosing the correct artwork and accessories. Just look at the gold portrait of the Buddha statue and the heavy set vase accessories the make up the main front of this formation – each one ads a bit of a feature to this interior.
Knowing what kind of materials to use for such a specific environ is a must – for example, the interior below balances out its chic sophistication with upended luxury by mixing and matching wood with stainless steel and chrome.
Proper lighting can either define your interior, or break it to shambles. In this case, each accent of the texture, color and material palate need to be carefully accentuated with the proper lighting.
While fixtures and furniture usually fall in a seamless pattern with the rest of a scheme, it is hard to put a finger on the feel of a deluxe genre feature fixture – but it will have to fall somewhere between modern contemporary and notoriously baroque.
