Your guide to all stages of renovation

Renovation is a lengthy process and depending on the size of the project, it may take from somewhere between four to eight months. The whole thing involves a lot of cooperation between different parties and there are actually several stages that need to be locked down and approved by both the client and the designer for things to truly take shape. So, without further ado, here is your guide to all the stages of renovation:

1. Research & Idea Stage

This phase begins immediately after you’ve started working with your interior designer. During this stage you not only start collecting and discussing your ideas, but you also start creating possible mood boards with the help of your interior designer. These help you organize all your ideas and possibly lock down the final concepts you want to emulate in your designs.

2. The Planning Stage

This stage is when the designer works starting articulating your thoughts and ideas into an actual plan/blueprint form. You go to regular appointments with your designer and discuss the layout, potential design features and what kind of things you want to incorporate in your home. At the end of this phase, you lock down the final plan so that the designer and their teams can start working on the final drawings for the contractor.

3. The Pre-construction Stage

This phase is all about getting approvals from all the relevant authorities. If there’s a window you need to enlarge, or a wall you need to dismantle, you need to get approvals from the specific authorizes. If you need to change pre-determined plumbing and sanitation points, you’ll also need to get approval for those. Your designer is going to be with you every step of the way.

4. Construction Stage

Once you’ve got the approval from all relevant authorities on both the design and modifications, it’s time for the actual construction to start. If there are walls to be hacked, your contractor is going to dismantles them. There are going to be carpentry works going all around. You’ll be locking down final furniture choices and more.

5. Completion Stage

This one is all about the finishing touches. During this phase, the post renovation cleaning takes place. All the extra material and debris is cleaned from your site, which is being prepped for presentation. The décor is finally in, the furniture has been set up and the window treatments are hung up. After that, your home is picture perfect and ready for habitation!
