Are you the one who likes uncluttered spaces and are not in a favor of flamboyancy in Interior design? Do you like to keep minimal belongings that exactly speak functionality and the reason why they should be put into use? Well, if the answer is yes, it is quite likely that you’re a Minimalist. And this article is going to be very beneficial for you.

Minimalism is more than an interior design style, it is a lifestyle and a philosophy. Based on the ideology of ‘less is more’, a minimalist space craves nothing more than basic necessities. Uncluttered spaces, ultra-clean and crisp lines, simplicity in design, monochromatic hues and simple furniture without any detailing, well define a minimalist interior design style!

So, let’s talk a little about the minimalist design style and how we can incorporate it into our homes!

1. Minimalist Color Palettes

Minimalist Interior design is defined with a monochromatic color scheme. It’s all about using neutral hues like whites, off-whites, beiges and greys. So, the minimalist design definitely nullify the use of bold and vibrant colors that shine too bright in the eye. Hues like bright reds and yellows are definitely a no-no. Instead, it advocates pastels and pale shades that are calm and soothing, which makes you able to relax in these soft and calm, warm and cool nude tones!

2. Materials for Minimalist Interior design

Even in minimalist space you can always make a contrast of materials and give a contemporary accent to your home. Don’t hold back while using fur, faux, cotton, linen, canvas, and glass, lush hardwood wall cladding with simple neutral wall paints. Glass is an another important material in interior spaces. It helps to ensure an airier and open space and add a sense of interest in rooms. For the window treatments, always choose minimal and sophisticated neutral sheer curtains for a timeless appearance. Make sure to hang them up at the ceiling up to the floor. This is a simple design trick to make your space look taller and larger.

3. Furniture of Minimalist Look

You have got to play carefully when it comes to furniture shopping. Go for light, airy, soft, and neutral-toned furniture. Like beige, off-whites, and light grey sofas with soft cotton fabrics and tufted upholstery are great options. Leather sofas are a great no in minimal Interior design. It is not necessary that the Minimal furniture have to touch-down the floor. You can simply pick the ones where the legs are visible, and the bases are raised. Smooth surfaces with clean-lined furniture pieces are what needs to be considered.

4. Minimalist Space Planning

The main agenda behind minimalism is to make interior spaces look light, airy, spacious, and welcoming. And strategic planning has a lot to do with it. While placing accessories and furniture, it is very crucial to make sure that circulation and scale are primary. Leave enough space in room for furniture and yourself to breath and relax. Don’t just fill up spaces and keep the ones that you’re actually going to use. Also, if it is possible, follow an open space plan in your home and avoid too many walls in your homes. Remember, open space is the key to minimalist interior design style.

5. Minimalist Accessories

You might think minimal interior spaces don’t allow décor accessories. Well, it is not true. Of course, you can have them as far as they are bare essentials. There is no excessive ornamentation or forms and embroideries in this design style. Instead, you can play with these accessories as ‘accents’ for your space. Pick subtle and minimal artwork, elegant lighting fixtures, that speaks about your personality. However, there should be a sense of harmony in your minimalist space. Don’t try to over-clutter it rather try to decorate your basic antiques on display.
