Smart Ways To Make Your Home From Small Space Feel So Much Bigger

Smart Ways To Make Your Home From Small Space Feel So Much Bigger

In a small space or in HDB flats, everything counts from floor area to wall space. To make a small space look bigger, there are specific design ideas that will visually expand the space in your home. These ideas include colour techniques, furniture arrangement, layout design, and more.

If you want to update your home to make it look spacious and bigger, then follow the following tips.

1. Use Light Colours And Clever Contrasts

Use neutral or light colours to make a living room look bigger. It is because the light colours make a room look bigger and brighter.

White walls are more reflective while making the room feels open and airy. To add more interest, you can highlight one wall with neutral or light gray. For an optimum effect, soft tones of gray and white are a great choice.

2. Cut The Clutter With Storage Units

Keep your living room tidy and organized to make space look bigger. Clutter space makes your home look small and untidy as well. So, to de-clutter, you need enough storage space where you can store your things to make space look bigger.

With things properly organized and out of sight will not make space look spacious but also allow you to find items easily. For, this you can create storage cabinets with some open shelves on a feature wall in the living room.

Also, keep the floor as clean as possible to make the room look bigger.

3. A Large Mirror On Wall To Make Room Look Spacious

Mirrors in the room can make your space look larger and attractive as well. Use a wall behind upholstery to hang a large mirror with a wooden frame.  It will create a focal point that gives the illusion of depth in your room.

The large wall mirror also reflects natural as well as artificial light that will make your room brighter during the day and night. Therefore a deep reflection of light in the room makes it look bigger.

Try to place a mirror near a window to reflect the maximum natural light in your living room. Take the idea from the above image.

4. Maximize Floor Space With Customized Furniture

An open floor with minimal furniture makes your room look bigger and spacious as well. For, this you can use customized furniture that takes less space and maximizes the floor area. For example, you can go for a dining table with seating stoles which you can hide under the table when not in use.

Further, you can use a sofa cum bed that helps you to save space and allow you to sleep at night. Also, choose a simple design for the TV unit. All these smart furniture ideas will save a lot of space and make your room look bigger.

For the floor, choose light wood tiles and for walls choose white paint as this will also make space look spacious.

Take ideas from the above inspirations and design your home like a pro.

We engaged Cindy as our ID. She was friendly and easy going! Managed to get our house before CNY as per scheduled.
I love the quartz top she suggested for us.
We also recommend their waterproof boards used under the kitchen sink.

Shermin Teo

We are repeated customer of Ciseern and they exceed our expectation every time. For this time, we are very glad to have Shermin taking care of our new home renovation. From design to onsite management, Shermin is an extraordinary Interior Designer. Why? I consider my wife and myself are some very picky and difficult to please customer, but Shermin experience, consultation and eyes to detail keep us within our comfortable zone.
During initial design work, Shermin listens carefully to our requirements (e.g maximize storage space while maintaining cozy look of the overall design) and propose varies concepts to our dream home. I am really impressed with her detailed planning and never missed a single requirement from us. The most valuable part is – Shermin is not someone that only say yes to all our request or pushy to her design. Instead, Shermin would carefully explain her concerns based on her experience and will stop us from going into future household disaster. More importantly, she would also provide alternative solutions to meet our requirements. From initial planning to 3D drawing to detailed drawing, Shermin put in exceptional effort to make sure everything (including individual dimension measurement) at going into the plan. On top of designing, Shermin also provides one-stop service for us to shop for our requested items, including items that are not readily off the shelves (e.g specific door stopper, windows safety catch, etc… ). While the above may be something expected from an Interior Designer, what Shermin had made a difference was her pre-emptive planning. One of the most memorable incident was that Shermin planned a laundry system’s delivery date in advance for us. This actually prevented us from a shock when laundry system’s sales told us that the delivery may take 2 months if we did not book the date in advance.
During renovation, Shermin and her team are nothing but exceptional. I could recall many incidents – for example, Shermin and her electrician, Shaun, provides plenty of excellent advices around wiring and lighting for the whole house. They even spotted and advice on a lighting solution on a concrete ceiling which is commonly missed by others units (as I heard). On the carpentry front, I can only compliment on the quality and dedication to all the carpentry works. As I had said earlier, we are not easy to be managed, especially when come to spotting defects. However, Shermin is always one steps ahead of us, spotting locations and make rectification suggestion to carpenters before we spots it. And, I would also like to mention the dedication of the carpenters, namely Ah An. His works are excellent and he is a perfectionist. There are many occasion where he worked late into night just to make the alignment of cabinets to perfection.
I could go on but I should summarize – Thank you Shermin and her team for their dedication, quality and wonderful work to make our dream house come true. Most importantly, this happens during difficult covid time but still make the project completion before Chinese New Year.

My ID, Chris has done up a tremendous job for my home renovation. The process was smooth and I would say I can leave everything in his hands without worrying about it. Most importantly, Chris would take time and advise me professionally especially being a first time home owner and I would definitely recommend him to my circle of friends when it comes to dealing with renovation. Thumbs Up!

January 21, 2021

Our dream home was bought to us by Shaphine, despite meeting with well over 10 ID from different firms, my wife and I chose to go with Shaphine as she was able to give us what we wanted instead of telling us that it can’t be done or asking us to take their idea instead. My wife had a vision of how she wanted our first home to look like and Shaphine was able to delivery her vision into reality. Our home was delivered to us as promise when we sign on with them, despite all the problems and hiccups she face along the way from having to change certain designs as we couldn’t get the required permits, facing space restrictions and adding of other storage space. Shaphine was fully able to deliver all within our budget as well.

We were very impressed with Adeline’s 3D drawings (with great design sense and huge number of details). She is very creative with her ideas and spent a lot of time proposing to us on the material and colour selections. The final result was really good and we are very happy.
