You won’t know the design deficiencies of your bathroom until you’ve actually used it for a month or two. After this time, you’ll start to notice some of the things that you maybe should have done differently from the get go. So, in order to save you a lot of trouble, time, and expenses, here’s everything that you should NOT do while designing your bathroom:
1. No contours on the floor tiles

Tactile textured tiles in bathrooms are not something that you want to go for. The pattern protrusion may seem attractive, but it can be extremely difficult to clean. Moreover, if it’s in linear form, it ends up accumulating so much grime that it feels like much of the texture is part of the grouting itself. Instead, go for seamless and smooth tiles with only visual textures – just like in this image.
2. No plug holes in your fixtures

Sometimes, when you invest in cheap and low quality bathroom fixtures – especially sinks and tubs – you end up with things that have holes without plugs. This can become quite icky in the long run as water and other left-over liquids tend to make home in there. Even if you want to get budget-friendly fixtures, make sure you purchase proper plugs with them to avoid this problem. The sink in this image is an example of how seamless and visually appealing your fixture should be.
3. Matt or qualitative shine finish

Faucets, shower-heads, and the like may look the best in chrome finishes, but there’s a downside to this. Eventually, the shine of the chrome starts wearing off, and you’re left with water marked and dirty accessories that require a lot of maintenance to go back to their spic and span shape. Therefore, either go for high-quality chrome finished accessories, or choose matt ones for easier maintenance.
4. Don’t overload the space

It’s understandable to want to incorporate all your dream bathroom essentials in the small space that you have, but don’t go for each and everything or it might seem like an overkill. Instead, you should carefully appraise your space and make sure you’ll have enough room to move around when you emulate some of your larger dream bathroom accoutrements.
5. No overhead lights

The bathroom vanity is the place where you appraise your general appearance, do your skincare and makeup. Overhead LED lights can cast long shadows on your face when you carry out any of these activities. So instead, you can go for softly glowing strip lights installed on the underside of the vanity cabinet or wall sconces installed on each side of the vanity mirror.
