Your Guide To “Humanized Minimalism”

While the minimalist style has become a timeless staple in future interior designing, that hasn’t stopped many people from calling it too stark, cold, and un-livable. So, like every other thing in the world, designers have started to evolve it in order to make it more humanized and approachable for the general public. Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about humanized minimalism:

1. Mixing with other styles

For a more welcoming approach to minimalism, designers have started to emulate concepts from Wabi Sabi and Japandi styles within such spaces. They include the best use of white color with other neutral hues, incorporation of subtle asymmetry in the décor, and generally increasing the warmth of the space to make it more palatable for the people residing within.

2. Highlighting the love of nature

Another great way to make the minimalist style more approachable is to have some manner of natural elements featured in it. It may be a single vase full of fresh cut leaves and flowers or it could also be an entire shelf full of refreshing green indoor planters. Either way, they’ll take away from the starkness of the minimalist style and make it feel more livable.

3. Highlighting imperfections

This particular aspect is derived from the Wabi Sabi aesthetic. Highlighting the imperfections of the space does not have to be obviously done. You can just take some subtle aspects or even add your own brand of asymmetry in the mix. The example of this kitchen is highly appealing in this regard. The asymmetry of the lines on the under-cabinets and drawers ultimately spruces up the whole ambiance two-fold.

4. Never forget to be simple

That said, do not forget to be simple and streamlined while designing a humanized minimalist ambiance. People tend to go nuts with the whole styling aspect and forget that ultimately, minimalism is all about living clutter-free. So emphasize the clean lines, simplicity, and modesty while emulating this style as well.

5. Add a bit of homespun

Lastly, add a bit of homespun element to the mix in order to fully humanize the space. This can be done by using comfortable throws, bed covers, pillows, etc. As long as they don’t overshadow the sleekness of the space, they can be a welcome addition!
