Mirror Mirror On The Wall...
Which Of These 9 Rooms 15 Fairest Of Them All?

Contemporary interior designers know that mirrors serve a far greater purpose than just reflecting one’s image. They can enrich a home's décor, add atmosphere, create illusions of space, naturally' illuminate dark corners or bend and scatter the colours of surrounding objects.

In fact, when used correctly mirrors hang like jewellery on the face of our homes, or a shining canvas which captures the life and landscape around it.

List as Lewis Carroll's young hero Alice steps through the magical looking glass, let's explore this wonderland of visual echoes and see what we find.

Contemporary meets classy. Notice how the wooden plank seems to merge into the large glass screen and keep going, adding a sense of infinite space? The room's look is further enhanced by those four candles, which draw the viewer's eye along the wooden slab until we see them reflected in the glass. This mirrored lighting {somewhat dimmed by the dark curtains) gives the place an almost romantic mood and atmosphere.

A bold, somewhat dramatic look best suited to modern interiors. While not for everyone, the placement of a giant mirror beside the dinner table gives it the quality of entertainment: instead of watching TV during meals and ignoring friends and family, people can now see each other in the reflected surface, which acts like a large television screen and encourages conversation.

The abundance of mirrors and reflective surfaces makes this bathroom a masterpiece of illusion and visual trickery, making it appear as though the windows in the background continue infinitely in either direction, thus fooling the eye into believing the city-scape goes on forever as well.

This style works best with contemporary or ultra-modem interiors rather than classic.

This trendy mix of time periods, from 19th century gas lamps to 20th century dining booths and modern coffee tables is anything but minimalist. The wall-mounted mirrors split the room into four sections, giving the appearance of eating out at an old-fashioned American diner. While studies/home offices can often feel too cramped or narrow, the addition of large floor-to-ceiling minors open up our sense of space. Here, the warm-toned floor seems wider by several feet when reflected, and the bolder splashes of red in the background almost create a symmetrical pattern in the mirror.

Here, the door-length mirror on our right provides the illusion of depth, almost making us believe we're staring into another room. At the same time, the mirror's dark wooden frame strikes a nice "earthy” contrast to the cool and contemporary tone of its surrounding decor.

A limited palette of whites, grays and silver infuses everything from the furniture, carpet for some. However, the floor-to-ceiling mirror lets the room breathe, illuminating the natural light streaming in from the window and also allowing the black lines on the reflective surface to pop boldly forth. Gorgeous and very modern.

A clean, contemporary look in which the mirror appears to hang like a canvas. The wide rectangular design extends far past the counter-top edge and almost blends into the background. Although the rectangular design compliments the sharp angles/contours of this modern bathroom, the clean reflection helps to emphasize the warmer brown hue of the door.

In addition, the dark reflection provides a nice contrast to the warmer tones of the surrounding environment.
