On the way to a la mode
Google and Wikitionary might lead you to believe a la mode a pie with a serving of side ice cream at a cursory search, but know that there is so much more to that phrase then pure witchery of food and desserts. It is a term coined in a way that seamlessly joins two adjectives while defining its meaning in a trendy, voguish way – translating literally to ‘in fashion’ and up to date.’ In the context of interior design, a la mode can mean only one thing – fashionable and all its relative synonyms; newfangled, chic, modish, contemporary and more. What defines these terms in interior design are the trends being followed all over the globe, so when we look for an a la mode interior setting, what we’re actually looking for is an interior that can keep up with all the globetrotting trends a la positive gravitas. An a la mode interior setting makes use of a cutting edge scheme that is soft in all the right places by using the latest, fashionable materials, colors and textures. All in all, it is a setting that leans more towards modern contemporary than anything else – albeit with a fancy name. Today we will be taking a look at a few newfangled interiors that are on their way to a la mode.
1. Shades of Greys
Grey is a very stylish hue and can bring out the elegant and sophisticated side of an interior setting. The image below shows just how you can parse out various shades of this hue and create and interior that is not at all dull and all the more engaging if you know how to pair it up with the right material and lighting.
2. Soft partitions
This interior lacks nothing in style, and shows just how creatively and open floor plan can be rearranged to highlight the creative application of the interior palate. The dulls are merged with the brights in an integrating and phenomenal way, while keeping the ambiance low key and relaxing at the same time.
Going asymmetrical seems to be the new trend these days, especially in soft interiors where photo frame arrangements are an integral part of the theme. Just look at the arrangement below – despite the disharmony, the asymmetry features a controlled chaos that is all a la mode.
4. Chrome and laminates
Veneering is an important part of the material palate, and using the right combination of laminates can make or break your ambiance. The use of high gloss white laminate combined with the stainless steel cladding makes for a clever material integration in the interior below.
5. Looking Mirrors
Double sided illusions in interior spaces is another trending aspect all around the world, and the designer had captured the simple elegance of the interior below and enhanced it twofold by expertly using the looking mirror theme.
