We’ve all pulled those horrible all-nighters at least a few times in our lives – and if you have, then you must be familiar with that bone tired ache, and that gritty itch in the eyes accompanied by one too many  yawn; the body starts to shut down, the limbs go lethargic and at one point, the eyes just refuse to stay opened. That is what sleep deprivation feel like, so make sure to be well rested because the old adage definitely got it right – early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Keeping that in mind, we’ll be looking at a few tips that would definitely help you sleep better at night.

1.The Right Mattress & Pillow

Goldilocks would be the perfect example of how to choose the correct mattress – do not settle for too hard, and do not settle for too soft – go for the one that feels just right. Going by instinct would be the best, but feel the reaction of your body to each mattress; the right amount of firmness would lead to better body contouring, and an even better sleep cycle.

2.Environment

Some people can sleep through a blast, while others need pin drop silence to fall into slumber. Make sure you know what the best conducive sleeping environment is for you and make sure to follow that pattern every night.

3.Routine

Following a pattern is by nature, very calming. Similarly, setting up a comfortable routine before bedtime could help you relax, unwind, and therefore, sleep better.

4.Follow a Schedule

As much as we’d like, it is impossible to fit life into neatly compartmentalized zones. Following a single nighttime schedule can feel a bit redundant when life takes it natural course but do try to find an ‘about time’ to form your sleep schedule around – it will surely help you sleep tight.

5.Go Organic

Adequate light exposure can help regulate your sleep-wake cycle. There is a hormone the body produces that helps regulate the sleep-wake pattern and adequate exposure to natural light (daylight) can definitely boost results. So let in all the daylight that you can, while you can.

6.Napping

Power naps can boost productivity, but a late nap is notorious for messing up the natural sleep schedule. So make sure to take all your naps early in the day, so that it won’t mess with your sleep pattern during the night.

7.Work Yourself

Utilize the ‘sleep window’ – a time when the body is truly tired enough for you to instantly fall asleep. Also try to avoid backlit objects – laptops, mobiles, etc – as they tend to stimulate the brain into activity.

8.Eat Right

Science dictates to breakfast like a king, lunch like a commoner and dine like a beggar – only if you eat the right amount of food at the right time of the day would your body regulate the right sleeping pattern.

9.Addictive’s

Avoid taking a hefty dose of caffeine, nicotine and alcohol right before bedtime. You may think they’ll help you sleep, but they truly won’t.

10.Exercise

Exertion of the body can help tire you out, but note that exercising right before bedtime can stimulate the mind and body rather than help fall asleep. So manage your time and fit exercising somewhere after lunch and before dinner in order to utilize the right sleep pattern.
