Old fashioned bathrooms with small ceramic tiles and yucky grouting are way beyond the style cache right now. So, if you’ve got one in your homes that you need to remodel, here’s a short list of all the things that you shouldn’t do:
1. Never ignore the ventilation
Most aspects of a bathroom interior design can be fixed later, but the one thing that gives major trouble if done wrong is the bathroom ventilation. Both natural and artificial ventilation play a huge role in delivering a humidity and odor free environment. So, while looking over the technical details of your bathroom, try not to ignore this very important factor.
2. Don’t do linoleum or vinyl
Water resistant materials such as linoleum and vinyl may seem like the most efficient choice to furnish your bathrooms with, but they are really not. In fact, both of these materials come with seams that can be impossible to properly seal. The solution is thick, unseemly grouting and that’s something that most homeowners avoid like the plague. It’s better to keep away from such materials.
3. Porous materials are a huge NO
These days, porous materials such as limestone and travertine have become popular, buzzy trends. However, both of these materials are porous and not at all a great choice to dress your bathrooms with. If you do end up using them in moist spaces, you’ll need to layer them up with an effective sealant. It’s a lot of hassle and not actually worth the cost that you pay for it.
4. Fixtures that’ll last
Fixtures such as tap faucets and shower paraphernalia are a few of the most important functional aspects of a bathroom, but that doesn’t mean that their aesthetic is any less important. But don’t choose them based on looks alone. Pick them up according to their functionality but also make sure that their design is classic enough to remain trendy for a long while.
5. Don’t hire general professionals
Lastly, do not hire any plumbing specialist to design your whole bathroom. Yes, it may seem like they know what they’re talking about, but at the end of the day you’re never going to get results as awesome as when an actual designer does the job for you.
