When Minimalism Meets Classical Designing

If there are two styles that are the complete opposite of each other, it’s the classical and minimalist styles. Both have contrasting features, so who would have though the unlikely combination could be combined in a single space? Well, it is very much possible, and here’s how you can do it:

1. Soft understated colours

The minimal style is known for its expert use of the neutral palette while the classical style can be easily represented in both pastel and baroque bold colours. Therefore, you can use a combination of soft pastels and understated neutral hues to present a combined front for the hybridization of both styles.

2. Simple vs. elaborate

A great way to merge the classical and minimal styles in a single go is by articulating half the side of your space in simple materials while using slightly elaborate design elements on the other. The chrome vs. wall beading aesthetic that is used in this hybrid kitchen is an excellent example of how to carry it out successfully.

3. Gold accents

Part of the charm of the classical style is that it has an inherently royal vibe. This is why gold lighting and accents would look absolutely stunning when you interpret this look in the minimal style. Just take a look at the brass-legged dressing stool and backlighting in this image for inspiration.

4. Tufting and other things

A classical style bedroom in minimalistic interpretation looks best when you modernize all of the design elements. The bed headboard can have minimal tufting and the light fixtures can be less elaborate. The wardrobe and wall designs can have minimal wall-beading and the use of tinted mirrors and soft lighting can create a royal ambiance – just as featured in this image.

5. Recalling old materials in modern form

You can actually design a minimalistic bathroom in classical style without iterations of claw-foot tubs and other fancy design elements. All you have to do is pick the right materials. Marble is a huge classical category material that can look beautiful even in a minimalist ambiance. Therefore, you can use the it to design your bathrooms – just as it is featured in this image.
